Doctor Powers

TVM acquired the old Doctor Powers school in Port Hope from the local school board in late 2009.  The property was surplus to the school board's needs.  The building had served the community for many years as the local public school and embodied many memories for those who had studied there.

TVM undertook a thorough planning process with the site and determined that a severance and rezoning would be the necessary first steps.  As part of the process, the lands were severed and rezoned to allow for residential redevelopment.  TVM donated lands to the north part of the site to Habitat for Humanity.

TVM converted the main building into 24 residential suites and created a commercial office space on the lower level.  The majority of the suites have highly enhanced accessibility features including lowered counter tops, roll-in showers and extra wide doors.  An elevator was installed into the building to ensure the suites could all be accessible.
